A New Cycle

“Another completed journey around the sun.”

Every 365 days on the day you were born, the Earth travels around the sun marking your birthday. A new cycle begins. A new start is made available to take that chance to begin again. April 10th was my opportunity to start over. I was blessed with a new opportunity to improve and take the lessons that I have learned in the previous year into my next one. I have learned so much from 21 and I cannot wait to see what 22 teaches me.

21 was tough. I digested countless lessons and was challenged in ways I did not see coming. I was tested beyond my imagination and entered a period where I felt numb. I experienced the death of my uncle and I did not know how to handle it. COVID-19 took over normal everyday life. I was stuck in the house having to deal with everything I tried to avoid. It was like I bottled my feelings up in an emotional jar that eventually overflowed.

One of my most negative qualities is that I am an over-thinker and my brain tortured me at times. I can think myself into an abyss and I saw myself turning into someone that I did not even recognize. This moment in time was a grooming process that I thought I did not need to undergo. I had a way of thinking that everything that I needed to know I already did.

To quote the beautiful Erykah Badu, she soulfully sang, “The man who knows something knows that he knows nothing at all…” and that resonates with me differently when I hear it now. I had to take a step back and look at myself knowing that I have so much growing to do. I have so much to learn about myself, others, the world, life, EVERYTHING. There is more out there for me to experience, both good and bad, that will continue to expand my mind and guide me as I maneuver throughout my journey. As trying as it is, I can embrace the bad because when it passes, it shows me how resilient I truly am.

The beginning of a new cycle holds the understanding that there are more levels to go. Prepare yourself for it. You would not be able to get to the next level if you did not have the ability to reach it within you already. Whatever it is that you are experiencing is only meant to push you to those new heights. The lessons that you have learned possess the answers to what will take you higher. Do not be afraid of what is pushing to your greatness. A fresh start has been granted and I am just grateful to be here.
