“Why aren’t you smiling? Our future lies in feeling empowered!”

Jhené Aiko has a song named “W.A.Y.S.”, that is an acronym for the phrase “Why Aren’t You Smiling?” I wanted to expand on this idea and added O.F. L.I.F.E., which stands for “Our Future Lies In Feeling Empowered.” This song touched me and strengthened my entire being.

The main message of the song is that as life goes along, you have to get stronger.

One of my favorite lines from the song is “You have gotta lose your mind, just to find your peace of mind.” Without going through anything, you will never be able to develop the endurance to handle what life throws at you. While it may be an uncomfortable place to be in, the wisdom that comes with your pain makes everything worth it in the end. I have had moments in my life that tested my patience but as I reflect, I am grateful for every trial that I experienced.

Once, I was on Instagram and there was a post that said, “Everyone wants to be a diamond, but few are willing to be cut.” In order to get the benefits of being a gem, you have to endure the pressure it requires. Sometimes we have to be broken down as people to propel forward. Your willingness to accept temporary defeat right now will only prepare you for your greatness that has yet to come.
